
early 1964, shortly after the death of Louis Cernuda, José Emilio Pacheco published this paragraph in the Revista Mexicana de Literatura :
At war against the world, no powers other than those of poetry, Cernuda showed something they never learn: one form of greatness is achievable by the writer look bad all do things to not like anyone. Thus, Cernuda lived in a sullen solitude, surrounded by hatred all around: self-defense in an extremely vulnerable being, a fallen into the hell that accepts evil and to express it, it conjures.
